I Am a Movie Freak: The 2000's

The 2000's - Part 3 of 4

As I mentioned in Part 1 of this lengthy list, choosing movies from this decade was almost effortless. So effortless in fact, that I absolutely could not choose just 50. Some remind me of my mom and how much I miss her and the years I wasted dreaming of a better life instead of making one for myself. I replaced the regretful reality that was my life with the magic of movies. Then again, others remind me of finally getting the courage to leave a horrible relationship and the moment I found new love. For those reasons, these 100 films made the list…

Chocolat (2000) – Johnny Depp + chocolate = yummy

Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) – This is such an enjoyable movie and of course a bit different since it is a Coen brothers movie. I could watch this one over and over and laugh every time.

Artificial Intelligence: A.I. (2001) – I just watched this movie for the first time within the last year. I love it and all its creepy robots.

Donnie Darko (2001) – Speaking of creepy…

The Lord of the Rings (Series) (2001) – Who knew an elf archer could be so hot!

The Others (2001) – Scary little kids freak me out so of course this movie granted me many sleepless nights. So frightening…but so good!

Shrek (Series) (2001) – Okay…a little cheesy, I know. But they are so stinkin’ funny.

Catch Me If You Can (2002) – I saw this with my dad; great father-daughter quality time watching a great movie.

Gangs of New York (2002) – A very violent movie; but Leonardo DiCaprio is so hot I don’t even care.

Harry Potter (Series) (2002) – I’m a capital N-E-R-D. At least that’s what Matt tells me.

Minority Report (2002) – I hate Tom Cruise, but I love futuristic movies so much that I could care less that he is a horrible actor.

Mr. Deeds (2002) – Who doesn’t love this one?

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) – Not to be confused with the new TLC show (and my new obsession) My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

One Hour Photo (2002) – Robin Williams plays an especially disturbing photo technician in this movie. It’s one of those movies that is so unsettling, that you want to see it again and again. Or is that just me?

Panic Room (2002) – I am not a huge fan of Jodie Foster, but this movie is actually very good!

The Ring (2002) – I slept with the light on for several nights after seeing this one.

Secretary (2002) – Interesting; that’s all I have to say.

Swimfan (2002) – One word; psycho.

Big Fish (2003) – So creative, so imaginative, so surreal; I love it.

Finding Nemo (2003) – Everything about the movie is great. But aren’t all Pixar movies terrific?

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) – So much better than another Kate Hudson/Matthew McConaughey movie by the name of Fools Gold (gag me!).

Intolerable Cruelty (2003) – Own it…another Coen brother’s favorite of mine.

Matchstick Men (2003) – Sam Rockwell is fabulous.

Mystic River (2003) – Does Clint Eastwood make a bad movie?

Pirates of the Caribbean (Series) (2003) – I have not seen the 4th installment yet. But it is on my list.

School of Rock (2003) – My favorite Jack Black movie.

Secondhand Lions (2003) – Everyone should see this movie. It is so…sweet? Charming? Delightful? I don’t

know the word to describe it, but I (and Matt) love it.

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003) – How wonderful would it be if we could all move (anywhere) to escape an unhappy life?

50 First Dates (2004) – What isn’t to love about this movie? Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are magical.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) – I have a memory or 2 or 20 that I’d like to erase.

Garden State (2004) – I love Zach Braff and Natalie Portman; therefore I love this movie.

The Grudge (2004) – Another freaking movie that I shouldn’t have watched.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) – This movie seemed like a Tim Burton movie through and through. I was surprised to find out it was not. Either way it is anything but boring.

National Treasure (2004) – There are very few Nicholas Cage movies that I have thoroughly enjoyed. This one, on the other hand, is very fun and entertaining to watch.

The Notebook (2004) – I could watch this movie every single day and never get tired of it. It is simply a wonderfully perfect love story.

Saw (Series) (2004) – I have issue’s…I know this.

Sideways (2004) – California wine country…so beautiful.

Stepford Wives (2004) – Surprisingly very funny. But any movie with Bette Midler is sure to have more than a few laughs.

Wimbledon (2004) – Tennis…I know…sounds boring. But this love story is so alluring it had to be on my favorite list. Paul Bettany is so charming.

Brick (2005) – High school, drugs, and murder…what’s not to love?

Brokeback Mountain (2005) – I saw this in the theater the weekend it came out. People actually walked out. Didn’t they know what it was about?!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) – Again, Johnny Depp as a crazy character, but still oh so fabulous.

The Chronicles of Narnia (Series) (2005) – A great adventure fantasy favorite of mine.

Elizabethtown (2005) – I lived in Kentucky when this movie was made and I wanted to drive there so badly to see it filmed. Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst are so delightful together.

The Family Stone (2005) – I was still on my Rachel McAdams high from the Notebook when I watched this one. It also stars Claire Daines and Dermot Mulroney. This one will make you cry for sure.

Hitch (2005) – Laugh out loud funny. I didn’t expect anything less. Kevin James and

Will Smith together are absolutely hilarious.

Madagascar (2005) – I know…silly, but rather funny.

Pride & Prejudice (2005) – Classic love story. I am a definite fool for them. Keira Knightly is magnificent.

Walk the Line (2005) – I was obsessed with Johnny Cash (and Joaquin Phoenix) after I watched this movie.

The Wedding Date (2005) – Another Dermot Mulroney film that I L-O-V-E. It also stars Debra Messing, who is positively hilarious.

Blood Diamond (2006) – I worked in the jewelry industry when this movie came out so I found it to be very, very interesting. Plus, Leonardo DiCaprio is in it…so I just had to see it.

Cars (2006) – Again…another silly movie for an adult to like so much. But I do…and

am very excited to see Cars 2 this summer.

Children of Men (2006) – This is another futuristic movie that is amazing. These types of films also freak me out a bit. What if?

Click (2006) – If only a universal remote really existed…

The Da Vinci Code (2006) – A mysterious, religious thriller that is so incredible. Matt and I watched the follow up to this movie…Angels & Demons…while we were on our honeymoon.

The Departed (2006) – A brilliant Martin Scorsese film with an equally exceptional cast…Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin…

The Devil Wears Prada (2006) – This is the life my alter ego once dreamt of, but what me, myself, and I never achieved.

The Holiday (2006) – Romantic comedies are my favorite. Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black are fantastic.

Hostel (2006) – Torture, gore, and violence at it’s best.

The Illusionist (2006) – I absolutely love movies that take place at the turn of the century. Not to mention, magic always has my full attention. So, the film does not disappoint at all.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006) – This is on everyone’s favorite list…right?!?

Marie Antoinette (2006) – This movie is a retelling of the outrageous Queen with a modernized soundtrack. It is fabulous.

Night at the Museum (Series) (2006) – I love museums…therefore I love these movies. They are so fun and entertaining.

The Prestige (2006) – Another movie that revolves around magic that is so intriguing I could watch it over and over again. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are spectacular.

We Are Marshall (2006) – Sad, but love it.

Alpha Dogs (2007) – This is one of Justin Timberlake’s first movies. He (along with Emile Hirsch) make this one a very favorite of mine.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) – Matt and I watched this movie with his parents. They have ties to Jesse James…or where he lived at least. I have been to Jesse James’ house in St Joseph, Missouri. It is so cool…as is this movie. Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck are wonderful.

The Astronaut Farmer (2007) – I read a review on this movie that said it was like Field of Dreams meets October Sky. I couldn’t put it any better. It is a great family movie.

Atonement (2007) – A great and tragic love story…I could watch it over and over.

August Rush (2007) – It is difficult for me to watch anything with Keri Russell in it. All I can think about when I see her is the Mickey Mouse Club. But this movie was different. It had my full attention from the first minute. It is a great movie.

Becoming Jane (2007) – I watched this movie the same day I watched Atonement. Let’s just say there were lots of tears that afternoon. Anne Hathaway is splendid.

Dan in Real Life (2007) – If you haven’t seen this one, you definitely should. It stars Steve Carell…among many others…and it is soooo good!

Disturbia (2007) – This is a great thriller that had me jumping from my seat. Very exciting.

Hairspray (2007) – I think this one was better than the original!

The Heartbreak Kid (2007) – Do not watch this movie with your in-laws. You will be very, very embarrassed. I know from experience and still to this day get made fun of for picking this one to watch with them. It is a very funny movie though.

I Am Legend (2007) – This was the first movie Matt and I saw in the theatre together; December 15, 2007. The day I moved into my apartment and the day I met Erin and Casey for the first time.

Juno (2007) – Ellen Page and Michel Cera are nothing less than perfect in this film.

Knocked Up (2007) – I saw this movie on a girl’s night out with my sister. Us watching this together = a million and one laughs. So funny.

No Country for Old Men (2007) – Violent, violent, violent. Did I mention this is a violent movie? So, violent, but rather captivating.

P.S. I Love You (2007) – P.S. I cried my eyes out; so sad, so sweet…simply splendid.

Ratatouille (2007) – This is such a fun and funny movie. I admit…I have watched it more than once.

Reign Over Me (2007) – This is a remarkable movie. Adam Sandler is at his finest in this film. One minute I am laughing and the next crying.

Smokin' Aces (2007) – This movie kicks ace!

Superbad (2007) – I own this movie and used to quote it quite often..."the funny thing about my back is that it's located on my cock"

27 Dresses (2008) –It’s not your typical cheesy romantic comedy. It is so funny and so sweet. Katherine Heigl is wonderful.

Burn after Reading (2008) – Hilarious. John Malkovich is my hero.

The Dark Knight (2008) – What to say about this one…Heath Ledger is fantastic. I mean, he is the whole reason I watched this movie in the first place.

Seven Pounds (2008) - I wasn't sure what to expect of this movie. I never saw the trailer. I don't remember hearing about it from other people. So, I almost passed up this one. I am so glad that I didn't. It's mysterious, and beautiful and the end will have you touch you heart so much that you will be recommending it to everyone you know. It is amazing.

Sunshine Cleaning (2008) – I almost passed up this movie, but I am glad I didn’t. It is quirky and a little odd, bur rather fantastic.

Twilight (Series) (2008) – In real life I think Robert Pattinson is anything but handsome, but when he transforms into Edward Cullen, there’s not one ounce of me that could deny that his sex appeal. Don’t get me started on Taylor Lautner.

Wanted (2008) – Again, I hate Angelina Jolie and 99% of her movies. But this one, also starring James McAvoy is very entertaining.

An Education (2009) – This movie does not fail to entertain. Carrie Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard are fantastic.

The Hangover (2009) – Matt and I just recently watched The Hangover II. Just as funny, but oh so bad!

Middle Men (2009) – Who knew a movie about the porn industry could be so good!

Pirate Radio (2009) – My dad would love this movie. Dad…have you seen it? If not, I highly recommend it!

The Proposal (2009) – Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock have an incredible chemistry that cannot be denied. This movie is sooo good.

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus (2009) – Heath Ledger died while he was filming this movie. Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell took over the role of Tony and did a remarkable job.

Up (2009) – I cried during this movie. Don’t judge…cause you probably did too!

Whip It (2009) – Definitely a girl power movie. Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page are terrific.

Zombieland (2009) – I admit…I have quite an interest in zombies/end of the world type movies. And this is one of the best. Not scary…not too gory…and rather funny.

Next: 2010; A year where The Joneses had a Date Night and found out their Due Date was on a Leap Year. Cyrus went to Shutter Island and sang The Last Song for 127 Hours before Love and Other Drugs got in the way. It's Kind of a Funny Story.
